With CDL Legal’s previous tool, it took an 18-step, manual process to discover that a driver had not paid. Customer service from their previous vendor was poor – the answer to most questions often was: “read the documentation.” If ACH transactions failed because the drivers had insufficient funds in their accounts at the time, there was no action in Salesforce to indicate the transaction failed due to NSF. It was mostly a manual system that could not be automated. Taking payments from drivers for services was clunky. ![]() White fang penguin readers5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() This volume of London's famed Northland novels also includes an early feminist story "The Night-Born," and a pro-labor story "South of the Slot." Once the catastrophic moon movement happens though, I had a difficult time setting the book down. ![]() Told in journal entries, this is the heart-pounding story of Miranda’s struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all–hope–in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.Įven though I have seen a ridiculous amount of recommendations for this book I was still skeptical when I started reading it because the tone of the diary entries was immature and seemed to be written to a much younger audience. How should her family prepare for the future when worldwide tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun? As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove. ![]() Miranda’s disbelief turns to fear in a split second when a meteor knocks the moon closer to the earth. ![]() The Murder of Halland by Pia Juul5/21/2023 ![]() The narrative constructed by Bess defies genre conventions, so while the investigation occasionally rolls up to Bess’s front door, she does not follow its progress. But Bess is quickly eliminated as a suspect, and while the investigation continues almost silently in the background, Bess finds herself immersed in questions and regrets about her past. In the confusion immediately following the crime, Bess finds herself accused of murder, and the fact that as Halland lay dying he apparently says “ my wife shot me,” doesn’t help. ![]() I’m not giving away spoilers to say that Halland has been murdered–shot to death by an unidentified killer. Had I merely heard the door closing behind Halland? ![]() ![]() Though I remember thinking something wasn’t quite right. That would have been psychic, insane almost. I pulled myself together again and clutched the blanket around my knees. She stays up to write while Halland goes to bed, and then she falls asleep on the sofa. The novel opens with Bess, the slippery narrator, describing the last night spent with her much older partner, Halland. To describe Danish author’s Pia Juul’s novel, The Murder of Hallandas crime fiction would not only be inaccurate, but would also potentially disappoint any readers, so instead I’ll say the book is about a woman whose life is instantly changed when crime takes place. ![]() The Liar's Key by Mark Lawrence5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() The Liar’s Key is second book in The Red Queen’s War series by Mark Lawrence. ![]() Wonderful fantasy with terrific worldbuilding and characters, I can't wait to read the next book in the series. And that ending - well, no spoilers but I laughed, convinced that Jalan was totally headed in the opposite direction. It's a good way to find out about the Red Queen and her siblings and the greater world politics, just as Jalan does. I like how the backstory is integrated through flashbacks due to Kara's spell. The only section I found a bit slow was when the two separated for a while, but it wasn't for long. Although Snorri and Jalan pick up (and lose) companions along the way, this is still a buddy story, a really good story about friendship. He has the knack for keeping the storyline moving along without bloat or aimless roaming around. And when I saw that The Liar's Key was over 600 pages, I was actually dreading the read despite loving the other books by Mr. ![]() There's seldom a real need in the story that couldn't be put into two books. In my opinion, most second books of a fantasy trilogy are padded with repetition and fluff while the characters wander around. I can't say enough about how much I love this story and Mark Lawrence's writing. Jalan and Snorri have Loki's key and are headed south, Jal to Vermillion where wine, women, and wagering await while Snorri wants to open the gates to Hel to find his dead family. ![]() |
